Major Military event in Tidworth to help Ex-Forces return to ‘civvy’ street

Wednesday 14 September 2011 3:08 PM
This is the fourth event held by BFRS. With the Armed Forces looking to shed 22,000 posts over the next four years, organisers are expecting record numbers to attend. The event will also include practical sessions in areas such as CV writing and interview skills, where common mistakes can make the transition to civilian life more difficult. The event brings together a wide range of organisations, both small and large, hoping to find future employees. There are also training providers, recruitment firms, franchise opportunities, service providers and specialist advisers available.

Jo Pickard, BFRS Events Manager, said: “We have already staged three incredibly successful events which proved very popular and offered practical advice and support for those who have either left the Forces or are thinking of doing so. The government’s Strategic Defence Review will result in thousands of highly skilled ex-Forces personnel entering the job market over the next few years, many of whom may not realise the benefits their skills can bring to civilian employers.

“The event gives Service leavers a head start in making the transition back to civilian life. BFRS aims to help and support anyone connected to the Forces understand their options, identify their skills and ultimately make themselves the most attractive proposition to potential employers. A first class CV for example is vital and by giving Service leavers some direction and guidance, we hope that they will be in the strongest possible position.”

The good news for those unable to attend the event in real life, or who wish to continue communicating with exhibitors after it ends, is that the event will continue virtually on the Web via BFRS’s new virtual event website Omnivil.

Omnivil is the UK’s first fully functional virtual careers transition fair and its arrival heralds a whole new approach to ex-military recruitment, bringing employers and prospective candidates together in an online forum that has all the facilities currently being offered in the real world. Available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, Omnivil will make the career transition process very easy and accessible. All the exhibitors at the real-life event will have their own online booth at Omnivil, which will enhance the transition services available on the day.

The BFRS job fair is taking place at Tidworth Leisure Centre, Nadder Road, Tidworth, SP9 7QN on October 6th. The event opens at 10:30am and closes at 3:00pm. People wishing to attend the job fair need to simply send an email to kirsty@bfrss.org.uk or call BFRS on 0845 3082406.

BFRS provides help, advice and support to present and future Armed Forces leavers and their families. It brings Armed Forces leavers and their families together with employers, training providers and service providers. Those who have left or are thinking of leaving the Armed Forces can create and build their profiles and extend their network by joining up with BFRS and its partners who are firmly established throughout the UK and internationally.
