“The Premier League Stadia Challenge 2011”.

Wednesday 30 March 2011 7:46 AM
Mark, Mick and Johno are three Warrant Officers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). They aim to ride to each of the current Premier League Football clubs from Newcastle to London, covering a distance of over 600 miles in 7 days. They are raising money along the route with the assistance of a fantastic support team.

As the cyclists are 40 years of age (or very close to this) and are each going through a mid-life crisis, they feel this will be a substantial challenge for them!

The challenge is named, “The Premier League Stadia Challenge 2011”. Three Warrant Officers all from the headquarters of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) are attempting to ride to each of the Premier League football clubs during the last week of the football season 16th to 22nd May 2011. The three riders are Mark, Mick & Johno. The journey starts at Newcastle’s St James’ Park and finishes at Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane. In addition to the stadia we will be stopping at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, the National Memorial Arboretum, Wembley and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court. The journey is over 600 miles and we will be attempting to complete this event over seven days raising money along the way with the assistance of a fantastic support team.

The catalyst for the idea was the loss of one of our Corps members; Cpl Matthew Thomas, who was tragically killed in Afghanistan on 25th September 2010, when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb. We have all spent time on operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and Northern Ireland during our service careers and have been fortunate to return safe and well, however some that we know personally and many that we do not, have not had the same good fortune, with many making the ultimate sacrifice
