Bid to tackle youth unemployment in Leicester

A summit meeting is being held to try to tackle youth unemployment in Leicester.
The city council said it spent £2m to put 753 young people in work placements in 2011 after the government's national Future Jobs Fund ended.
The authority is now planning to set up a new scheme to tackle the problem.
The meeting will involve the city council, local employers, Jobcentre, trade unions and voluntary organisations.
Councillor Ted Cassidy, assistant city mayor responsible for economic development, said: "Young people who haven't yet had the chance to develop a track record of work experience can face a really tough time getting their foot on the ladder.
"This event is about celebrating successes, listening to some of the inspirational stories of people involved in that scheme and working with our partners to develop a new Leicester to Work programme to help young people in to work."
The meeting is being held at the Highpoint Conference Centre in the city.
